The parents of students and pupils of the town of Golo in Central Darfur state have complained about the substantial shortage of teachers, pamphlets, textbooks, seating and classrooms.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Dabanga on Friday, one parent explained that there are 18 elementary schools which must accommodate 18,000 pupils, and four secondary schools to accommodate 5,000 students.<\/p>\n

However, the parent said, there are only 80 teachers available for the elementary schools, and only seven for the secondary schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll except two of the schools are built of straw, and each blackboard must be shared between more than one class,\u201d the parent said. \u201cWe need 100 more teachers for the elementary schools, more than 10 for the secondary schools, and 30 new classrooms.\u201d<\/p>\n

He appealed via Radio Dabanga to state educational authorities to expedite the provision of those needs; especially teachers, pamphlets, textbooks, seating and classrooms.<\/p>\n
