According to Khartoum newspapers on Saturday, torrential rains followed by floods have killed 38 people: 28 to the east of the Nile in Khartoum state and 10 in River Nile state.<\/p>\n

The fatalities were reportedly caused by drowning, houses collapsing, lightning, and electrocution.<\/p>\n

Sources have told Radio Dabanga that in the \u2018Libya market\u2019 area of Sudan\u2019s largest city, Omdurman, \u201chundreds of citizens have protested against the government\u2019s failure to react in the face of disasters, floods and rain\u201d.<\/p>\n

The crowd chanted anti-government slogans, and \u201cdemanded the punishment of the officials of Libya and Prince markets\u201d.<\/p>\n

Police then used batons and tear gas to block the demonstrators and arrested a number of them, the reports state.<\/p>\n
