Clashes between the Salamat and Misseriya tribes at the market of Bindisi, Central Darfur, on Thursday resulted in a number of dead and injured.<\/p>\n

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that violent clashes broke out between the Salamat and Misseriya around 5pm at the weekly market of Bindisi. Fighters from both tribes used machine guns and Kalashnikovs.<\/p>\n

The witnesses reported that the clash resulted in a number of deaths and injuries among the warring parties. Exact numbers are still unknown because the fighting was still ongoing, according to the witnesses who spoke to Radio Dabanga. They added that the clashes spread into some neighbourhoods of the city of Bindisi and surrounding villages.<\/p>\n

Shop owners closed their doors and citizens hid in their homes and in the valleys and creeks nearby. Other shop owners told Radio Dabanga that they were not able to shut their shops and safeguard their money in time.<\/p>\n

The Commissioners of the localities of Bindisi and Mukjar earlier that day issued a stipulation on the presence of the two tribes at the markets: The Misseriya were only to visit the market of Mukjar while the market of Bindisi was restricted to the Salamat.<\/p>\n

Robbery<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday afternoon in the area of Magale near to Bindisi, militiamen reportedly plundered a commercial convoy consisting of ten vehicles en route from Umm Dukhun to Foro Baranga, Garsila, Zalingei, and Nyala.<\/p>\n

One of the victims said that the militiamen stripped them of everything they possessed: money, goods, mobile phones, watches, luggage and even the turbans and shoes they were wearing.<\/p>\n
