Despite the rising income in Sudan, 47 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. In Khartoum state 26 percent of the people live in poverty, while 70 percent of the North Darfur population and 61 percent of the people in South Darfur live in poverty. This concludes the IMF in its poverty strategy paper published last week.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Sudan has had one of the highest growth rates amongst Sub-Saharan African countries. Nonetheless, the country\u2019s human development outcomes remain weak, IMF says.<\/p>\n

Sudan ranks 154 out of 169 countries in UNDP\u2019s Human Development Index, despite the fact that income per capita GDP is 25 percent higher than the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) average. In South Darfur there are only 2,5 doctors per 100,000 people, while the average in Sudan is 45 doctors per 100,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\n
