Staff of the East Darfur State administration have threatened to begin an open-ended strike if they do not receive their October salaries soon.<\/p>\n
An employee told Radio Dabanga from Ed Daein, the capital of East Darfur, that the state administration staff was told that there was not enough money to pay the salaries. The civil servants were given two options; either to receive a part of the salary instantly or wait until the amount required is completed. The staff decided to threaten with striking instead.<\/p>\n
The head of the East Darfur Workers’ Union, Adam El Magboul Adam, however noted that the state government is trying to complete the salaries, pointing out that full payment may take place on 12 or 13 November. <\/p>\n
In Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, the Trade Union department of the Urban Water Corporations has handed a memorandum to the state governor calling for payment of the salaries of the Nyala Corporation\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n
The head of the Corporation, Hassan Obeid, reported that more than 300 employees and workers are waiting for their salaries of October, amounting to a total of SDG300 million ($67 million). \u201cBecause new amendments have not been implemented yet in the state, we have given the state government three days to pay our salaries. Otherwise we shall go on strike too.\u201d<\/p>\n
