South Darfur has failed to provide salaries and wages in ten out of the 21 localities, prolonging the strike of teachers and working staff in Buram and Rahad El Berdi. Also the surgery specialists of the hospital in Nyala, the state capital, are on strike in protest of the non-payment of their financial dues.<\/p>\n

The Secretary General of the workers union at the Ministry of Education in South Darfur told Radio Dabanga that the state has failed to provide wages from October in ten localities. He added that the workers in South Darfur \u201chave problems other than that of salaries, including differences and allowances that the Ministry of Finance failed to pay\u201d.<\/p>\n

South Darfur has officially recognized the inability to provide salaries for the ten localities. The deficit is estimated at SDG4 million ($697,000). The Ministry of Finance has acknowledged that the markets are paralysed. The members of the legislative council of South Darfur demanded a report on Tuesday by the Ministry of Finance in Nyala with a solution to the problem.<\/p>\n

Surgery specialists strike in Nyala<\/strong><\/p>\n

The administration of Nyala hospital has suspended all surgical operations since earlier this week. A medical source said that the doctors’ strike against the non-payment of financial dues, such as housing allowance and economic medical treatment.<\/p>\n

The source warned of a health disaster in the hospital if the surgeons continued to strike, since the administration also suspends the emergency cases. The emergency cases are transferred to the Police and Army medical hospitals – which might not receive sick civilians.<\/p>\n
