Militiamen have brutally raped a young woman (17) in the El Salam camp for the displaced near Nylala, the capital of South Darfur.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Mahjoub Tabaldiya of El Salam camp told Radio Dabanga that on 16 November at about 11am, \u201cgovernment-backed militiamen on camels and horses, and wearing military uniforms\u201d attacked a father and his daughter in the area of Arba\u2019inat near El Salam camp for the displaced. The two were on their way to collect firewood and straw.<\/p>\n

The militiamen beat the father and tied him to a tree trunk, after which they alternately raped his daughter. \u201cThey only released her the next day.\u201d She was transferred to the hospital of Nyala for treatment. <\/p>\n

Sheikh Tabaldiya noted that the camp residents are living in a state of constant fear due to repeated attacks. He called on the authorities to put an end to the assaults of these militiamen.<\/p>\n
