Specialists at the hospital of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, partially resumed their work on Monday, after a stop of more than a week in protest against the deterioration of the working environment in the hospital, and non-payment of financial dues.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Dabanga a medical source at the hospital reported that the crisis of the medical specialists has not yet been resolved. The hospital\u2019s management and the Ministry of Health have reached a partial agreement with the striking specialists, stipulating the payment of physicians\u2019 financial dues in instalments, provided that they treat emergency cases.<\/p>\n

The striking doctors have demanded the payment of financial arrears covering several years, housing allowance, an attractive environment, in addition to new medical staff.<\/p>\n

A nurse of the department of surgery told Radio Dabanga that the Nyala hospital has been experiencing a \u201creal health catastrophe. Even simple, same-day surgeries for children could not be carried out in the hospital because of the strike.\u201d<\/p>\n
