The Central Bureau of Statistics noted that the Consumer Price Index for the first 11 months of 2013 was up with 36 per cent due to the general increase in prices of nearly all commodities,<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Prices for mineral water and soft drinks rose by 10.5%; coffee, tea and cocoa by 6.8%; milk, cheese and eggs by 3.8%; vegetables by 3.1%. Only the prices of meat (-1.9%), fruits (-2.7%) and fish (-0.8%) went down.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">It is likely that the inflation is caused by the government&#8217;s decision in late September to lift fuel subsidies which caused prices of gasoline and diesel to increase by almost 100%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">A gallon of petrol now costs SDG21 ($4.77, based on the official exchange rate) compared to SDG12.5 ($2.84). Diesel also went from SDG8 ($1.81) a gallon to SDG14 ($3.18).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Cooking gas cylinders, if available, are now priced at SDG25 ($5.68) &#8211; from SDG15 ($3.40). The government also devalued its currency from SDG4.40 to the dollar to SDG5.70.
