The Misseriya and Salamat tribes have reached an agreement on peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, chairman Adam Digi Digi reported that the commission of intermediates from the neutral Tarjam tribe brokered a peace agreement between the Misseriya and Salamat in Um Labasa in the locality of Kubum, South Darfur<\/p>\n

The agreement includes eight terms of which the most important are cessation of hostilities, re-opening of roads, footpaths, and markets, prohibition of carrying weapons and covering of the face, of large gatherings and armed patrols, and of harbouring and protecting criminals. Cases of breaches of the agreement are to be immediately reported to the committee of elders (Ajaweed), and the decisions of the Joint Committee of the two tribes are to be respected.<\/p>\n

Digi Digi noted that the committee that will supervise the implementation of the agreement is made up of ten field commanders, five from each tribe.<\/p>\n

Representatives of the Salamat and the Misseriya have sworn their commitment to the agreement in front of the Ajaweed <\/em>committee and the commissioners of Kubum and Shataya.<\/p>\n
