The Government of Qatar and the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) have agreed on a number of arrangements to activate the \u201cfile of the non-signatory rebel movements of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD)\u201d.<\/p>\n

A delegation of the DRA, headed by chairperson Dr Tijani Sese, and accompanied by Sultan Saad Abdelrahman Bahreldin, the chairperson of the DRA Assembly, and Dr Amin Hassan Omar, the head of the Darfur Peace Follow-up Office, arrived on Wednesday at Doha, the capital of Qatar, for a five-day visit within the framework of enforcement and follow-up of the DDPD.<\/p>\n

On Thursday the delegation was received by the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmed bin Abdallah El Mahmoud. They discussed measures and arrangements aimed at activating the file of the non-signatory rebel movements, after meetings with Mohamed bin Chambas, Unamid head and direct talks between some of the rebel movements and the DRA, the Sudanese government and Qatar, Sese reported to the media after the meeting.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese delegation briefed the Qatari PM \u201ccomprehensively\u201d on the progress of the DDPD implementation, \u201cin particular on the planned conferences on Social Peace, of which the first one took place in Nyala, South Darfur, on 4-6 January, aiming at containment of the tribal conflicts in Darfur.  <\/p>\n

Both sides also agreed to hold a meeting with the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, so that the Qatari financing of the reconstruction and development projects across Darfur can \u201cimmediately\u201d start, in cooperation with the DRA Technical Committee.<\/p>\n

The parties also agreed to convene a meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for the shareholders of the planned establishment of the Bank of Darfur, in order to develop a roadmap for the formation of the bank.<\/p>\n

Sese expressed his gratefulness to the Qatar government for the positive meetings, and for the continuous efforts of Qatar \u201cto support the peace efforts and the realisation of reconstruction and development projects in Darfur\u201d.<\/p>\n
