At least six people were killed in a clash between Sudanese army forces and militiamen inside the market in El Salam camp for the displaced in Bielel locality, South Darfur, on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya of El Salam camp told Radio Dabanga that “government-backed militiamen” in two Land Cruisers opened fire on Sudan Armed Forces troops at the market of the camp at 3pm, killing four army troops and two camp residents, and wounding a large number of people. They stole one Land Cruiser belonging to the army.<\/p>\n

Tabaldiya said that the army pursued the robbers. The exchange of fire between the army and militiamen continued until late Friday evening and \u201ccaused panic amid displaced people, especially children. They hid inside their shelters. Some fled outside the camp.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the 5th of January, a group of militiamen stormed El Salam camp in search of a vehicle they claimed was missing. <\/span>They threatened to torch the camp if they would not find the vehicle. The incident was reported to the police and Unamid, who searched the camp but did not find it.<\/p>\n
