Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the Joint Special Representative for Darfur and head of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (Unamid) on Sunday briefed the undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the mission\u2019s efforts in supporting the peace process in Darfur.<\/p>\n

Ibn Chambas told the media after the meeting that he briefed Rahmatullah Mohammed Osman, undersecretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, on the mission’s efforts to support the peace process in Darfur and its meetings with a number of armed rebel movements aiming to persuade them to cease their hostilities and engage in the peace process.<\/p>\n

The undersecretary reiterated the Sudanese government\u2019s stance that the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) forms the basis for peace in Darfur. He stressed that the government is still working, on various levels, to engage the non-signatory armed movements in the peace process.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese minister of Justice, Mohamed Bushara Dosa, informed the head of Unamid on Sunday that criminal proceedings related to the attacks on Unamid troops \u201care going as required\u201d. He stressed that his ministry is fully involved in these proceedings, represented by the specially appointed \u201cAttorney General for crimes in Darfur\u201d. Dosa noted that \u201cthis year will be the year of comprehensive peace in Sudan in general and in Darfur in particular, as directed by the Sudanese government\u201d.<\/p>\n
