Residents of the El Salam camp for the displaced in Kabkabiya locality, North Darfur, complain about the continuous attacks by government-backed militiamen, the killings, beatings, rapes, robberies, and the charging of fees on firewood. A resident of the Kabkabiya camp was shot dead on Sunday.<\/p>\n

A source from El Salam camp told Radio Dabanga, that the most recent attack occurred on Saturday, when militiamen halted Babakar Suleiman, Abdallah Hassan Yasin, Yusif Adam Iyab, and Musa Abakar, at around 6pm, when they were returning with carts loaded with collected firewood. The gunmen told them to pay \u201ccompensation\u201d for the firewood. When they discovered that the camp residents did not have enough money, they held them detained until Sunday afternoon. The victims were beaten and robbed of everything they had with them, including their pullovers and their caps.<\/p>\n

The day before, on Friday, the source said, the same militias assaulted four other camp residents who went out to collect firewood. They beat them and took their clothes and shoes from them, when they could not pay the charges demanded.<\/p>\n

The El Salam camp residents appealed to the local authorities and Unamid to protect the displaced and to expel the \u201cgovernment-backed militias\u201d from the area.<\/p>\n

Kabkabiya camp resident killed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Multiple sources from Kabkabiya camp told Radio Dabanga that five militiamen in military uniforms in a Land Cruiser mounted with a Dushka machine gun, opened fire on Ismail Adam Sul at about 7pm on Sunday, 10 metres from the Unamid site in the area. Sul was killed instantly. The militiamen took Sul\u2019s body and fled northwards, in the \u200b\u200bdirection of Kabkabiya town.<\/p>\n

The sources said that camp residents went out to search for the corpse after the police and Unamid had refused to trace the killers. The body was found scorched in Wadi Dady, 1km north of Kabkabiya. It was transferred to the morgue of the Kabkabyia hospital.<\/p>\n

The Kabkabiya camp residents demanded from the UN to send troops \u201cfully capable to protect the displaced and make peace in Darfur\u201d.<\/p>\n
