Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the head of Unamid, said he is determined to persuade all Darfur armed movements to engage in peace negotiations. The rebel movements, however, insist on a comprehensive peace.<\/p>\n

“Consultations are currently ongoing with the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid El Nur to arrange a meeting and convince him to negotiate,” Ibn Chambas said during a press conference in Khartoum on Thursday. He has sent a message to all armed opposition movements saying that \u201cafter ten years of conflict, violence is not the answer\u201d. <\/p>\n

The armed movements, under the banner of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), responded they are against partial solutions. They all stressed they insist on a comprehensive solution \u201cleading to the dismantling of the current regime\u201d.<\/p>\n

Jibril Adam Bilal, the spokesman for the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) told Radio Dabanga that JEM, along with the SRF, is prepared to immediately start negotiations that lead to a comprehensive peace and a real change.<\/p>\n

Bilal noted that \u201cthere is no real partner for this required peace\u201d, pointing to President Al Bashir\u2019s recently voiced rejection to negotiate with the movements, \u201cnot about power sharing nor wealth sharing\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese President offered the armed rebel movements only amnesty in his speech held in Damazin, the capital of Blue Nile state, on 9 January this year.<\/p>\n
