A massive fire broke out in El Neem camp for the displaced in Ed Daein, East Darfur, on Friday afternoon and burned 30 houses and their contents to the ground, along with large amounts of agricultural crops and food.<\/p>\n

One of the affected, basic school teacher Hussein Abrahbim Abdulah, reported to Radio Dabanga that 40 families in total were damaged by the fire. \u201cThey are currently living in the open without food or shelter.\u201d He estimated the financial damage at about SDG 10,000 ($1,743).<\/p>\n

The teacher demanded from the authorities to plan a road toward and across El Neem camp, \u201cto make the camp more accessible for fire trucks\u201d in case of future large fires.<\/p>\n

\u201cHumanitarian organisations working in the area should provide the displaced people living in El Neem with information about how to safely make, use, and put out cooking fires, and raise awareness amongst the residents\u201d, Abdulah demanded.<\/p>\n

He called upon the traders union in the cities to speed up the provision of shelter, food, and relief items to the affected families in the camp.<\/p>\n
