Villagers who fled the attacks of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the area southeast of Nyala, South Darfur, continue to arrive at camps for the displaced. 127 newly displaced families arrived at El Salam camp on Monday and Tuesday, while Kalma camp on Monday received about 1,356 families. A number of the newly displaced were tortured. The Nyala hospital is daily treating patients with bullet wounds.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Abdel Rahman Tahir, chairman of the sheikhs of Kalma camp, Nyala locality, told Radio Dabanga that about 1,356 families arrived at the camp on Monday.\u201cThey have lost everything they owned in the attacks by the Janjaweed, and are now camping in the open, without shelter, food or water. He appealed to the UN, health and relief organisations \u201cto rescue the new and aid the old displaced in Kalma camp\u201d.<\/p>\n

Tortured<\/strong><\/p>\n

Forty-seven families arrived on Monday at El Salam camp, south of Nyala, sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabeldiya reported to Radio Dabanga. \u201cThey came from villages close to the camp. They told us that the militiamen assaulted them again, while they were on the run. Adam Mohamed Abakar (70) years and Yusif Ibrahim (47) were murdered.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe RSF also tortured members of these families,\u201d the sheikh said. \u201cThey severely beat them, tied them to the rear of their vehicles, and dragged them around.\u201d Among the villagers who were tortured in this way are Mohamed Sadig Idris (17), Abakar Mohamed Jumatallah (27), and Busha Ishag (54).<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Tuesday another 80 families arrived, \u201cmost of them women and children who came from the area of Um Gunja. They are extremely exhausted and in a very bad mental state\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bullet wounds<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Nyala Hospital received an increased number of patients with bullet wounds, a medical source told Radio Dabanga. She said that since the end of February a daily average of three people injured by bullets are treated at the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe majority of these wounded come from the camps for the displaced, and areas in the neighbourhood. The last couple of days, dozens of injured and sick people who fled the fighting southeast of Nyala, arrived at the hospital for treatment. Most of them are women, suffering from extreme fatigue. They have had to cover long distances to escape the RSF attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n
