The president of the National Umma Party (NUP), El Sadig El Mahdi, has accused the Sudanese government of \u201cdestroying the social fabric in Darfur\u201d.<\/p>\n

The NUP leader stated at a press conference on Thursday that the conditions in Darfur have reached the stage of \u201cwar of all against all\u201d. The social fabric in the region has been destroyed owing to the policies of the Sudanese government. El Mahdi expected that the situation of \u201cDarfur on fire\u201d will not end soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Abuja and Doha agreements have failed to achieve peace and security, and to meet the legitimate demands of the people of Darfur concerning representation at the level of the Presidency, power and wealth sharing in accordance with the proportion of the population, individual and collective compensation, justice, and their rights to their lands and hawakeer<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the fire in Darfur continues, and the regime continues to fail in dealing with the situation, the matter will be raised to the UN Security Council that will issue a resolution under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chapter VII <\/strong><\/p>\n

Chapter VII of the UN Charter deals with \u201cAction with respect to threats to the peace, breaches of the peace, and acts of aggression\u201d.<\/p>\n

Article 41 states that \u201cThe Security Council may decide what measures not involving the use of armed force are to be employed to give effect to its decisions, and it may call upon the Members of the United Nations to apply such measures. These may include complete or partial interruption of economic relations and of rail, sea, air, postal, telegraphic, radio, and other means of communication, and the severance of diplomatic relations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShould the Security Council consider that measures provided for in Article 41 would be inadequate or have proved to be inadequate, it may take such action by air, sea, or land forces as may be necessary to maintain or restore international peace and security. Such action may include demonstrations, blockade, and other operations by air, sea, or land forces of Members of the United Nations.\u201d Article 42 says.<\/p>\n
