The Darfur Bar Association (DBA) has strongly denounced the murder of Mohamed Suleiman Ibrahim, a student at the University of Nyala. On 14 March, a relative told Radio Dabanga that Ibrahim\u2019s body had been found in an area north of Nyala.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by the DBA on 17 March, the Darfur lawyers express their solidarity with the relatives of Ibrahim, and urge the South Darfur State authorities and the Commissioner of Nyala locality to arrest the killers and bring them to justice.<\/p>\n

The statement recalls that on 26 February this year, militiamen stationed north of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, abducted Ibrahim (20) and his cousin at the city\u2019s cattle market. The cousin was released but the kidnappers demanded a ransom of SDG100,000 ($17,487) for Ibrahim\u2019s release. The student\u2019s family entered into negotiations with the kidnappers, after which the amount was reduced to SDG70,000 ($12,241). The ransom was paid, but instead of releasing him, the militiamen shot him dead, and threw his body in the street. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is barbaric behaviour proving that the kidnappers are devoid of any sense of religious, human, and ethical values. They consider themselves to be above the law. What happened is a result of the chaos, rampant insecurity, and complete impunity of the militiamen in South Darfur.\u201d<\/p>\n

The relative of the deceased had told Radio Dabanga that they know the murderers, and had handed their names to the police in Nyala.<\/p>\n
