Three students and a lawyer from Darfur were arrested by the security services in Khartoum on Tuesday night. The Darfur Students\u2019 Association organised a press conference in Omdurman on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

A statement released by the Darfur Students\u2019 Association said that the \u201cKhartoum regime and its security forces have stepped up the persecution of members of the Association\u201d, and condemned the arrest of a Darfuri lawyer known by the name of El Sadig and three Darfuri students, Ibrahim Saleh, Ali Ahmed Ali, and El Radi Ali Ibrahim.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Khartoum regime wants to hinder and halt the Association\u2019s search for the identity of the killers of Ali Abakar Musa, the student of the University of Khartoum who was shot dead during a demonstration on 11 March. It does not want the Darfur students to discuss what is currently happening in Darfur, and talk about the murders, rapes, the widespread looting, and the massive displacements.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Darfur Students\u2019 Association stressed in the statement that \u201cthe Association and its student members will never give up, despite the intimidation, arrests, and murders\u201d.<\/p>\n

Press conference<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Association held a press conference at the premises of the National Umma Party in Omdurman on Wednesday. During the meeting, attended by a large audience, the latest developments in Darfur were discussed, \u201cthe armed conflicts, the tribal clashes, the assaults, killing and looting, the Darfuri people have to endure since a long time\u201d, as well as “the persecutions and arrests of Darfuri students, the brutal forcing out of female students of dormitories, and the shooting on peacefully demonstrating students”.<\/p>\n

Representatives from the Darfur Bar Association, the Manaseer Youth and Students Organisation, and the Nuba Mountains Association spoke during the press conference.<\/p>\n
