The Sudan National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) confiscated the print runs of El Midan newspaper on Sunday and Tuesday, of El Jareeda daily newspaper on last Friday, and last week of El Sayha.<\/p>\n

The Sudanese Journalists Network noted in a statement on Wednesday that apart from the confiscations, a number of female journalists were summoned by the NISS for interrogation during the last two weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe increase in confiscations of newspapers and the harassment of journalists coincides with the ruling National Congress Party\u2019s calls for a broad national dialogue. The Party’s deeds contradict its words.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NISS and other government institutions should file a complaint with the competent authorities in case of being affected by the publication of any material by any media,\u201d the Network demanded.<\/p>\n

The Network urged the authorities to refrain from \u201cthe repeated violations of the rights and freedoms contained in international conventions, and ratified by Sudan\u201d.<\/p>\n
