Hundreds of students of the University of El Fasher boycotted their lectures on Thursday and gathered in protest on the campus, calling slogans condemning the killing of a student at the university on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Radio Dabanga from the university, a member of the Darfur Students\u2019 Association reported that they gathered at the Faculty of Arts today in protest against the shooting of their colleague, a female student at the Faculty of Education.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe gunman entered the campus on Wednesday and shot the student. After she died, almost instantly, he immediately committed suicide by shooting himself.\u201d <\/p>\n
The students submitted a memorandum to the University administration demanding \u201ca clear position about the killing of the student\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo armed person, including the military, should be allowed to enter the university campus.\u201d The students demanded an investigation among the university guards who let the killer in, and the provision of an ambulance at the campus.<\/p>\n
They not only demanded an investigation into the case of the slain student, but also into the recent burning of the Student Affairs office.<\/p>\n
Clashes<\/strong><\/p>\n In West Kordofan, a secondary school student was injured in clashes between police and citizens in Um Jak, following a protest against the transfer of the centre for the final secondary school examinations from Um Jak to El Udayya town.<\/p>\n Demonstrators had set fire to two secondary schools and destroyed some government facilities in Um Jak.<\/p>\n The Commissioner of El Udayya locality, Adam Egeidat, said that an agreement was reached with the parents of the students to find a solution, after which the protests stopped.<\/p>\n He accused \u201csleeping cells and certain student groups\u201d of seeking to destabilise the locality, and inciting the students to demonstrate.
