Three children, as well as several cattle, were killed when a grenade \u2013 a suspected remnant of the almost daily Sudanese aerial bombardments of the area \u2013 exploded on Sunday in West Khazan Tanjur in Darfur\u2019s East of Jebel Marra. There is a large military base in the area.<\/p>\n

One of the relatives of the dead told Radio Dabanga that the bomb killed Zeinab Yagoub Adam (8), Haroun El Haj Eisa (11), and El Tayeb Adam Yahya (14), who were herding livestock.<\/p>\n

The witness said that \u201cthe explosion tore the children and cattle to shreds\u201d. They renewed calls for Unamid to clean-up the area of the widely spread \u2018deadly remnants of war\u2019.<\/p>\n

Years of conflict have left Darfur littered with potentially deadly explosives and munitions (UXO). Radio Dabanga appeals to listeners in East Jebel Marra and throughout Darfur (and elsewhere in our reception area) not to touch any \u2018unexploded\u2019 grenades or other ammunition found in the field. Mark its position clearly to alert others, and report it immediately to a camp sheikh, Unamid and\/or the local police.<\/p>\n
