More than 150 stalls and 20 shops were destroyed by fire in the South Darfur city of Kass on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the blaze began in Kass market at about 8 pm. Citizens used sand and water to fight the blaze, but could not save the stalls or shops. They stressed that the area has no fire engines or formal fire brigade.<\/p>\n

The witness said that that the majority of the owners of the destroyed shops are displaced, as the South side of the market is adjacet to the camp.<\/p>\n

They noted that \u201cthis fire is the fifth of its kind in several months\u201d. Material losses are estimated at thousands of Pounds.<\/p>\n
