A committee of inquiry formed by the Sudanese Ministry of Justice has recovered an amount of 17 million Sudanese Pounds embezzled by staff of the Khartoum State’s Governor Office. Two staff members were released without charges.<\/p>\n

The staff members of Governor Abdelrahman El Khidir have been accused of abusing their power and trading pieces of lands and luxury cars. Two of the staff have been released without being subjected to any punishment after they had returned the amount of SDG17 million ($3 million). Meanwhile, sources say that the public money stolen is estimated at about SDG900 million ($157 million).<\/p>\n

Economic expert Kamal Karrar on Sunday stated to the press that the staff escaped justice and due punishment. He accused the government of “not holding accountable those who abuse public money and preventing their case going to court, because this would increase the list of names involved in the abuse of the public money”. “They dodge and conceal the thefts.”<\/p>\n
