The Delegation of the European Union to Sudan has expressed its concern by reports about aerial bombardments of the Mother of Mercy hospital in the Nuba Mountains, South Kordofan.<\/p>\n

In a press statement released on Sunday, the EU Delegation, in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Sudan, recalled that \u201cunder international humanitarian law, hospitals are protected civilian objects, and that failing to make the distinction between military objectives and the civilian population and objects represents an indiscriminate attack, and is a war crime\u201d.<\/p>\n

The EU Delegation called on the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement-North to facilitate full humanitarian access to the conflict-affected civilian populations without delay.<\/p>\n

The Delegation urged both parties to spare no effort in the ongoing negotiations with the aim of speedily reaching a peaceful settlement of the conflicts in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, under the facilitation of the African Union High Level Panel and the Chairperson of IGAD.<\/p>\n
