The Sudanese People\u2019s Liberation Army \u2013 North (SPLA-N) and government forces claim to have inflicted \u2018heavy casualties\u2019 on each others’ forces in South Kordofan and Nuba Mountains.<\/p>\n

SPLA-N official spokesman Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, told Radio Dabanga that on Sunday, the rebels launched an attack on the Sudanese government forces in their positions in Kadugli, capital of South Kordofan, as well as the area of El Atmur to the east of the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe inflicted heavy losses on their forces and equipment,\u201d Lodi said. \u201cAn SPLA-N artillery unit shelled the government forces\u2019 artillery headquarters, as well as other military and militia position within the city. El Atmur was shelled heavily, which destroyed three tanks, 21 other vehicles, and an unknown number of casualties.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lodi said that at the time of his statement on Monday, the SPLA-N had partially regained control of the area. \u201cThe fighting will continue until the liberation of El Atmur and Hamra\u2019 are complete. We will then advance into Kadugli city as the government forces are eliminated and weakened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lodi said that the rebels have lost three men, with 15 wounded in the fighting so far.<\/p>\n

SAF<\/strong><\/p>\n

The spokesman for the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) Col. El Sawarmi Khalid Saad, said that “the SAF Monday repulsed a rebel attack on the El Atmur area of South Kordofan, which was recently liberated by the SAF, and killed 110 of the outlaws.”<\/p>\n

Speaking via the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA), Col. Saad said the SAF “inflicted heavy losses on the outlaws in a battle which lasted for three hours at El Atmur which was exploited by the outlaws as a military base. 110 of the aggressors were killed and many others were wounded. The remaining outlaws have fled leaving behind them a large quantity of equipment.”<\/p>\n

Col. Saad said that the SAF are currently pursuing the outlaws and conducting a combing operation in the El Atmur area.<\/p>\n
