In a letter to the UN and humanitarian, relief, and philanthropic organisations on Tuesday, the Association of Displaced People and Refugees of Darfur appealed for urgent action. They urged the organisations to provide humanitarian aid to the displaced people in camps in Darfur, and refugees in the neighbouring countries, before the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Hussein Abu Sharati, chairman of the Association of Displaced People and Refugees of Darfur, expressed severe concern over the situation of the old and newly displaced in the camps of Darfur, as well as Darfuri refugees in neighbouring countries He said that economic situation has deteriorated even further this year.<\/p>\n
According to Abu Sharati, economically speaking, this is the worst year since the outbreak of the crisis in Darfur. He told Radio Dabanga that the Association is using the approach of Ramadan to draw attention to the plight of the widows, orphans, and vulnerable, and appeal for urgent assistance, humanitarian aid, food and non-food items to avoid a crisis.<\/p>\n
