Norwegian donors will continue to provide relief to Hamidiya camp for the displaced in Zalingei locality, Central Darfur, and broaden activities, as requested by the camp residents.<\/p>\n

The coordinator of the Central Darfur camps reported to Radio Dabanga that on Wednesday, representatives of Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), a number of Catholic churches in Norway, and other Norwegian donors, met with camp elders at the NCA run health centre in Block 4 for the Hamidiya camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cRepresentatives of the camp\u2019s youth and women committees, the water provision committee, and the health and education committees, took part in the meeting. The shortage of food and malnutrition were discussed, as well as the lack of services in the field of water, environmental health, and education.\u201d<\/p>\n

The camp leaders stressed the need of services for women to the donors. \u201cThe women requested training in the production of food, the use of improved stoves, maintenance of water pumps, and the use of solar energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the World Food Programme (WFP) on Thursday distributed food to the Hamidiya camp residents, including the 269 newly displaced families who arrived since early April.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe WFP distributed seven kilos of sorghum, half a kilo of lentils to each a displaced\u201d, the coordinator said. He thanked the WFP for its commitment to continue the monthly food distributions, and requested the provision of water, sanitation, shelter items, cooking utensils, water, and mattresses.<\/p>\n

The camp coordinator also pointed to the fact that the newly displaced have not been registered yet.<\/p>\n
