Two members of the paramilitary Popular Defence Forces (PDF) were killed in a gunfight with a joint army-police patrol in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The fighting between the patrol and the PDF elements occurred in the vicinity of the Saudi Hospital, Sudan Tribune<\/em> reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The recruits of the paramilitary force violated an order banning the wearing of a kadamool<\/em>, a turban-veil that covers the head and the face, which makes it difficult to identify a person.<\/p>\n

The quarrel over the cover quickly evolved into full blown clashes, and two PDF members were killed. Two military vehicles were destroyed.<\/p>\n

North Darfur\u2019s ban on the kadamool<\/em> is part of efforts to fight criminal activities in the state. Central Darfur State prohibited the turban-veil in March this year.<\/p>\n
