On Thursday, representatives of the warring Hamar and Ma\u2019aliya tribes signed an agreement to stop their violent confrontations in East Darfur and West Kordofan, which have been continuing for two years.<\/p>\n

Both tribes agreed to participate in a reconciliation conference that will start next Friday, July 18, in El Fula, West Kordofan.<\/p>\n

The agreement was signed by the leader of the Hamar Union, Abdel Rahim Ahmed Salem, and the chairman of the Ma\u2019aliya Consultative Council, Mordos Juma Abdallah, on Friday evening at the premises of Hamar leaders in Omdurman, the sister-city of Khartoum.<\/p>\n

The leaders demanded from the native administrators of their tribes to early intervene in problems occurring, and solve them peacefully, before they will develop into clashes.<\/p>\n

Since 1 July, military forces have been deployed in localities of East Darfur and West Kordofan to serve as a buffer between Hamar and Ma\u2019aliya warriors. Renewed clashes between the tribes, prompted by a conflict over farmlands erupted on 30 June East Darfur. The fighting, in which heavy weapons were used, led to the death and injury of at least 60 people from both sides.<\/p>\n
