Militiamen abducted a resident of El Salam camp for the displaced in South Darfur, and stole six cows on Friday. In El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, gunmen attacked the vehicle of the State Minister of Finance and killed the driver. In North Darfur, a lorry was plundered.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Mahjoub Tabaldiya reported to Radio Dabanga from El Salam camp that \u201cgovernment-backed militiamen in a vehicle, and others on camelback, stormed the camp on Friday evening. They seized Musa Hamad, and six cows belonging to Osman El Jazari, and fled.<\/p>\n

Assault<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Saturday, militiamen assaulted five residents of El Salam camp in the area of Amar Jedid, 15km south of the camp. They severely beat the displaced with rifle butts and whips, leading to varying injuries.<\/p>\n

Murder<\/strong><\/p>\n

In El Geneina, gunmen killed the driver of the vehicle belonging to the State\u2019s Minister of Finance, Mohamed Osman Tala\u2019at, and plundered the vehicle, a witness told Radio Dabanga on Saturday afternoon. \u201cThree Janjaweed intercepted the Finance Minister\u2019s vehicle not far from the government\u2019s offices, at about 5 pm on Saturday. They shot the driver dead, pillaged the vehicle, and fled.<\/p>\n

Robbery<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also on Saturday, 48,100kg sacks of sugar were stolen in Kabkabiya town in North Darfur. A listener in Kabkabiya told Radio Dabanga that a commercial convoy of lorries, guarded by Unamid troops, was on its way from Omdurman to Kabkabiya. In the area of Ed En Nabag, one of the lorries overturned. The convoy continued, and arranged a tow truck to fetch the overturned lorry. When the tow truck was moving the lorry to Kabakabiya, militiamen in six Land Cruisers, and others on six motorcycles -led by local militia leader Gamar Joda- followed the vehicles. After the arrival in Kabkabiya town, the militiamen plundered the lorry, \u201cunder the eyes of army soldiers and policemen\u201d.<\/p>\n

Release<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Sunday, trader Abdallah Ali Ismail, was released by militiamen who had abducted him at the bus station in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, on 20 June. His relatives had paid a ransom of SDG50,000 ($8,710).<\/p>\n
