An armed group stormed El Salam camp for the displaced people in South Darfur on Wednesday and caused panic amongst the residents. On the same day, militiamen terrorised camp residents in Central Darfur, without causing any casualties.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabdeldiya told Radio Dabanga that the gunmen entered the camp in Nyala locality in the evening and opened dense fire into the air, which caused terror amongst the displaced people. They notified the AU-UN peacekeeping mission (Unamid) about the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe displaced also went to the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) to report the incident,\u201d Tabeldiya said. \u201cThe commander told them that his troops are disciplined and denied their involvement in the attack.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sheikh appealed to the SAF, Unamid, and the police to play \u201ctheir full part in the protection of the displaced people\u201d.<\/p>\n

Militiamen abducted a resident of El Salam camp and stole six cows on 25 July. The next day, militiamen assaulted five camp residents in the area of Amar Jedid, 15km south of El Salam. They severely beat the displaced with rifle butts and whips, leading to varying injuries.<\/p>\n

Militiamen cause panic in Nierteti camp<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Central Darfur\u2019s Nierteti South camp for the displaced, militiamen fired a hail of bullets into the air on Wednesday night. The shooting did not cause any casualties, however, terror prevailed amongst the people living in the camp.<\/p>\n

One of the militia members had crashed with his motorcycle into one of the resident\u2019s bicycles, a camp sheikh reported. Bystanders managed to contain the ensuing fight. On Wednesday evening, however, a group of militia members attacked Nierteti South camp for the displaced. The incident was reported to the police, the sheikh told Radio Dabanga.<\/p>\n
