A Sudanese university student who was acquitted by a military court of having links with a rebel group has been expelled from the University of Khartoum, following \u201chis long absence\u201d.<\/p>\n

Saeed Ali Mohamed El Awad, a second year student of economics and social studies at the University of Khartoum, was accused, along with other suspects, of spying for the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Army-North (SPLM-N) and conspiracy against the state.<\/p>\n

He was arrested by security operatives in Abu Kershola town in South Kordofan, but a military court acquitted him in April this year due to a lack of evidence.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Mohamed El Awad said the University administration informed him of his dismissal following his long absence from attending lectures.<\/p>\n

He said he is still receiving verbal threats by security agents on his own mobile phone. He suffered health trouble while in detention and is now receiving treatment. His lawyer told Radio Tamazuj earlier this year that the student was \u201csuffering badly from hepatitis disease while in military custody\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The citizen from South Kordofan was arrested on 25 November last year at his home in Um Cham Chaka, near Abu Karshola. Several hearings had taken place until his acquisition in April. The judge ruled that <\/span>the evidence against Mohamed El Awad does not lead to his conviction under article 141\/1 of the Criminal Procedure Act.<\/p>\n
