The Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF, an alliance of the main rebel movements) on Monday called on all Sudanese to boycott the general elections, scheduled for April 2015, and abstain from registering as voter or nominee. In Khartoum, human rights defender Dr Amin Mekki Madani appealed to all Sudanese to support the Paris Declaration and form a broad coalition \u201cfor the sake of change\u201d.<\/p>\n

Yasir Arman, SRF Foreign Relations Secretary, through Radio Dabanga, called on all Sudanese, \u201cwherever they are, to start now with the first steps to dismantle the Khartoum regime.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) is using elections for a forged legitimacy. The NCP intends to hold a party conference in October or November to nominate a presidential candidate for the 2015 elections. Yet, we can only have elections after the stoppage of the civil wars, and all citizens enjoy their freedoms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regarding the Paris Declaration, Arman said that the SRF and the National Umma Party (NUP) are \u201ccurrently campaigning intensively for the recognition and support of the Declaration at home and abroad\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cFaroug Abu Eisa, chairman of the National Consensus Forces (NCF, a coalition of opposition parties) and I met in London. We agreed to intensify the cooperation. We will soon organise a conference with all civil society and opposition forces with the aim of forming one front and agree on a programme for a peaceful solution to Sudan\u2019s crises, and democratic transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Broad alliance<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr Amin Mekki Madani, a prominent human rights defender, considers \u201cthe current repressive measures taken by the regime in Khartoum\u201d an attempt to escape from the contents of the Paris Declaration. \u201cThis is,\u201d he told Radio Dabanga, \u201cmore important than the regime\u2019s claims about the unlawfulness of the Declaration, especially in the absence of any alternatives or serious projects that could serve as a road map to get out of the current impasse, and the collapse of the Sudanese nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe contents of the Paris Declaration cannot be denied or contradicted,\u201d Madani argued, \u201cwhich makes the Declaration imperative for all respectable Sudanese working for change. All Sudanese citizens, in or outside the country, should work together to form a broad alliance to achieve these noble goals.\u201d<\/p>\n
