Torrents and floods destroyed thousands of homes in the Nierteti camps for the displaced in Central Darfur last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeavy rains and floods destroyed more than 2,000 homes entirely in the two camps in Nierteti in the past week. At least 3,000 houses were damaged, a resident of Nierteti camp North told Radio Dabanga.<\/p>\n

She said that the affected are now living in the open, and urged relief organisations to intervene, and provide tarpaulins and tents.<\/p>\n

North Darfur camps<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Naivasha camp for the displaced in Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur, 150 homes collapsed owing to the heavy rainfall last week.<\/p>\n

Residents of Zamzam camp, in El Fasher locality, North Darfur, complained to Radio Dabanga about the outbreak of \u201cmalaria and night fever\u201d. \u201cThere is a proliferation of mosquitoes, because of the accumulation of rainwater.\u201d<\/p>\n

They appealed through Radio Dabanga to the local authorities to accelerate the drainage of rainwater, by cleaning the ditches and gutters.<\/p>\n
