The detained journalist Hassan Ishag is still not allowed by the El Obeid prison authorities in North Kordofan to make a medical appointment. They have consistently rejected Ishag’s request to see a doctor for over a week, while his health condition is deteriorating.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ishag personally told the Sudanese Journalists’ Network on Wednesday that the prison authorities have refused his request for ten days, although his health requires him to see a doctor. Reports quoted by human rights organisations revealed that the journalist for El Jareeda<\/em> was subjected to torture and mistreatment since he was detained on 10 June.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ishag published an interview with Sudanese Congress Party party leader Ibrahim El Sheikh, after which he was detained. The opposition party leader had accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), of committing atrocities against civilians in Darfur and Kordofan. For this reason, El Sheikh himself was detained in En Nahud on 8 June.<\/span><\/p>\n
