Torrential rains led to the collapse of 371 homes in El Salam camp for the displaced, south of Nyala, capital of South Darfur over the weekend. In eastern Sudan, 11 villages have been isolated by floods.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout 3,000 other homes were partially destroyed,\u201d an El Salam camp elder told Radio Dabanga. \u201cMost of the toilets at the camp were flooded, and some collapsed too.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sheikh added that the rains led to the increase of public transport fees from the camp to Nyala. \u201cWe pay now SDG 10 ($1.75) instead of SDG 3 ($0.52).\u201d<\/p>\n

He appealed to relief organisations to help out the affected camp residents, drain the pools, and solve the sanitation problems.<\/p>\n

In El Gedaref State in eastern Sudan, 150 houses collapsed, and schools and government institutions were damaged by heavy rains last week. The overflowing Atbara and Seteit rivers isolated 11 villages in the state.<\/p>\n
