An initial inventory of the damage caused by elements of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in the area of Bir Yasin, 60 km west of Ed Daein, capital of East Darfur, has been concluded. <\/p>\n
A ministerial committee of military personnel from El Daein was immediately dispatched to Bir Yasin, after Sudanese army troops had ravaged the area on the evening of 17 September, in reaction to the killing of an army soldier.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, Radio Dabanga reported that a gunman had shot dead a SAF soldier, while he was watching a soccer match in a club in Bir Yasin.<\/p>\n
Member of Parliament for the Yassin constituency, Abdeljabbar Abdallah, told Radio Dabanga that the authorities managed to arrest the killer, who turned out to be a soldier too, and not a gunman from the area, as was alleged earlier.<\/p>\n
According to the investigation committee, 11 shops and clubs burned to ashes, as well as two restaurants, a bakery, a photo studio, 11 telephone kiosks, five generators, and a large number of sun shades.<\/p>\n
