An Unamid soldier was killed at the hands of one of his colleagues in Ed Daein, the capital of East Darfur, on 19 September. The incident happened within the premises of the mission’s base, located 7 km south of Ed Daein.<\/p>\n

A source reported to Radio Dabanga that a Nigerian, named Louis James, and a Zambian soldier had a quarrel over a woman, presumably a prostitute. He said that the mission reported the incident to the authorities, and that the mission’s leadership formed a committee to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n

Unamid spokesman Ashraf Eisa confirmed the death of one of the Unamid soldiers to Radio Dabanga. He said that he does not know their nationalities. The reason for the murder is unclear to him.<\/p>\n

Issa also confirmed that the mission has formed a committee to investigate the killing. He reported that the investigation is not yet been concluded.<\/p>\n

Ashraf Eisa is the successor of Aicha Elbasri. The former Unamid spokesman<\/span> disclosed last year that the joint peacekeeping mission has covered-up crimes against civilians and Unamid troops, and submitted misleading reports to the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n
