The downpour in South Darfur accompanied by strong winds has brought destruction to classrooms and tents in Kalma camp for the displaced people on Tuesday and Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Saleh Eisa Mohamed, the Secretary-General of Kalma, reported to Radio Dabanga that the rains heavily damaged 16 basic school classrooms, around 700 tents and three centres belonging to a food distributor.<\/p>\n

The rain and wind lasted for three and a half hours, from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning. Saleh Mohamed added that the inventory of the losses in the camp in Nyala locality is still ongoing.<\/p>\n

The Secretary-General revealed that there are about 5,860 families registered since August by international refugee organisations, who have not received any non-food aid so far, such as plastic sheets, blankets, and utensils.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe International Organization for Migration registered about 3,700 families in May and June,\u201d Saleh Mohamed added. He called on the humanitarian organisations and the international community to provide non-food assistance to the victims of the rains.<\/p>\n
