The Delegation of the European Union to Sudan announced that the resident European Ambassadors in Khartoum requested permission from the Sudanese authorities to visit humanitarian and development projects in South Darfur in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of the annual joint mission is to receive first-hand information about the political, development and humanitarian situation in South Darfur. The visit will include meetings with the local government officials, the UN, International Agencies and the locally active civil society representatives,\u201d the EU Delegation to Sudan stated in a press release issued on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Tomas Ulicny, head of the EU Delegation to Sudan, explained to the press that the situation in Darfur remains of great concern to the EU. An improved access for international donors is in the interest of the affected population suffering from fighting, criminal attacks and tribal clashes.<\/p>\n

Peacekeepers<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe European Union strongly condemns the attacks by unidentified assailants on the Unamid force on Thursday, 16 October, near Korma, North Darfur, in which three Ethiopian peacekeepers were killed,\u201d Ambassador Ulicny stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the second fatal attack in one year. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, to the Government of Ethiopia and to all Unamid personnel. The European Union calls for swift action to investigate this crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ongoing attacks on Unamid peacekeepers remind everybody of the need for a comprehensive and inclusive peace in Darfur and across Sudan.\u201d <\/p>\n
