The relatives of a Central Darfur basic school teacher currently held at Kober prison in Khartoum demand his immediate release.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Suleiman Ibrahim Hussein was detained by security agents in Mukjar, Central Darfur, on 15 July. Initially, no reason was given for his detention. In August, the Darfur Bar Association reported that the sheikh, a well known basic school teacher in Mukjar, and former head of the Mukjar Displaced Council, was charged with \u201ccontacting foreign press\u201d.<\/p>\n

One of his sons told Radio Dabanga that Hussein\u2019s ten children, his wife and parents, are living in severe anxiety about his fate. \u201cMy father is an Islamic Studies teacher at Mukjar Basic School. He was never involved in political activities. We do not understand why the security forces are keeping him in custody for such a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He appealed via Radio Dabanga to human rights organisations to intervene, and support his father\u2019s release or \u201ca fair trial\u201d.<\/p>\n
