The Deputy Governor of South Darfur state, Abdelrahman Gardud, announced on Sunday that the number of serious crimes declined after the introduction of emergency measures to curb the rampant insecurity in the state.<\/p>\n

During the last three months, 42 murders were committed. The authorities recorded 112 robbery cases and 578 petty crimes. 193 people were arrested. In particular the number of murder and abduction cases declined, the deputy governor stressed.<\/p>\n

Gardud said that the State of Emergency will be continued until further notice.<\/p>\n

On 15 July, the governor of South Darfur state issued a number of emergency measures, in an attempt to reduce the criminality in the state. A special Emergency Court was established in the capital of Nyala to speedily try offenders of the new measures that ban the wearing of masks, carrying of guns by civilians, and unregistered cars and motorcycles.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the head of South Darfur state\u2019s Legislative Council, announced that about 3,000 Land Cruisers in the state are not registered.<\/p>\n
