Ten Chadian refugees, including six children, have died in two weeks, because of an unknown fever spreading in a camp in Azum locality, Central Darfur. A medical source in El Gezira state released that 79 people died of malaria this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eisa Ahmed Saeed, the chairman of the health committee in Um Shalaya camp, told Radio Dabanga that the death toll has risen from eight to ten since Thursday. One of the two deceased was a 2-year-old, Ismail Abdallah Adam. The other was an 11-year-old girl, Hawa Abdallah Mohamed. They died from high fever, diarrhoea, and swelling of the body on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saeed revealed that a delegation of the Central Darfur Health Department, headed by its director of Epidemiology Ahmed Zein, paid a visit to the camp on Thursday. They learned about the rising number of deaths, the causes of death, and the symptoms of the unknown fever.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe delegation pledged to send a group of doctors in a week\u2019s time, to identify the viruses in the region,\u201d Saeed said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Malaria, cancer cases in El Gezira<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A medical source in El Gezira state revealed the deaths of 79 people because of malaria from the beginning of 2014 to this month. There were 11,674 malaria cases. The source pointed out the seriousness of the matter, and urged the need to save civilians from the mosquito-borne disease. Last week, t<\/span>he Sudanese Ministry of Health acknowledged a huge increase of malaria cases in the country, in particular in the states of Khartoum, El Gezira, West Kordofan, and North Darfur.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number of deaths owing to cancer in El Gezira is higher than deaths owing to other factors,\u201d a member of the Secretariat of the Alliance stressed to Radio Dabanga. Hasabo Ibrahim pointed out that the spread of cancers and pesticides is \u201ca human catastrophe, and an unforgivable crime against millions of people\u201d. Ibrahim claimed that there are power centres and currents within the Khartoum regime that are protecting the corrupt people. \u201cThey have been involved in the destruction and devastation of the El Gezira scheme.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Cancer Institute in Wad Madani, capital of El Gezira, has revealed the death of 111 people from cancer at El Zurra Hospital, and more than 1,200 new cancer cases during the period from January this year until mid-October. Farmers and food organisations have attributed the cause to the use of outdated pesticides and contaminated food.<\/p>\n
