At least seven civilians were injured in heavy artillery bombardments by Sudanese government forces on an area north of Deribat in East Jebel Marra on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the shelling was carried out using mortars and Katyusha rocket launchers. Many civilians fled the area and large areas of farmland and pasture were burned.<\/p>\n

The military spokesman for the rebel Sudan Liberation Army faction of Abdel Wahid, Mustapha Tambour, confirmed that seven people were injured, and a market and school were burned in addition to the agricultural land.<\/p>\n

Tambour said that the barrage lasted from 1 pm on Tuesday until noon on Wednesday, but that the area of Krow is now under his faction\u2019s control.<\/p>\n
