European Union ambassador Tomas Ulicny stressed that the conflict in the Darfur region continues to witness \u201cserious human rights violations\u201d, and called on all Sudanese parties to improve the access for international agencies in the region. The head of the EU delegation to Sudan also confirmed that \u201cthere is no military solution for the conflict\u201d, following a visit to South Darfur in this week.<\/p>\n

The ambassadors of the EU paid a visit to Nyala, as well as a visit to Kalma camp for the displaced people near the state capital. They spoke with government officials, camp leaders. the Darfur Regional Authority, and international organisations.<\/p>\n

Concluding the delegation’s visit, Ulicny said in a statement on Saturday that \u201cthere is no military solution for the conflict in Darfur\u201d. He encouraged all stakeholders, including the government, the opposition, the armed movements and the civil society, to support and contribute to an inclusive National Dialogue process.<\/p>\n

Kalma camp leaders<\/strong><\/p>\n

During his visit to Kalma camp, Ulicny asked the camp leaders to lend their full support to the upcoming peace talks and the National Dialogue. He said he carefully noted the camp leaders’ anxiety about the insecurity and the provision of basic services. He further expressed his concern about the growing number of displaced people living in the 10-year-old camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe continued conflict entails serious human rights violations, including aerial bombardments and violence against displaced internally displaced people.\u201d In the statement, the EU ambassadors call on all relevant Sudanese parties to fight impunity and improve access for international agencies.<\/p>\n

Currently, the EU contributes 11 million Euros to aid project in South Darfur state. \u201cWe hope that we can transform our contributions gradually to development aid once the security situation improves on the ground and access is granted\u201d, Ulicny said.<\/p>\n
