The Governor of South of Darfur, Maj. Gen. Adam Mahmoud Jarelnabi, has acknowledged the inability of his government to resolve the security chaos in the state.<\/p>\n

Addressing the State Legislative Council this week, Jarelnabi cited the lack of resources in his state due to insurgency and lack of security, along with financial and administrative corruption in the state.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that his state is heavily indebted to the tune of SDG 5 million ($880,000) per month, in addition to SDG 1.7 million ($300,000) for salaries. He vowed to deter and punish whoever misuses public money in any illegal manner.<\/p>\n

The Governor said he will \u201cturn-off and return all the investment lands that were given without illegibility at lower prices to some people\u201d and demanded that they be paid for or returned to the State.<\/p>\n

He called on the Council to reconsider and reduce the distribution of the 21 localities, pointing out that they have promoted tribalism and regionalism and created an administrative and financial imbalance in the State Treasury. \u201cThese localities cannot pay the salaries of staff at village level, let alone the headquarters of the localities,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n
