Combatants of the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) reportedly repulsed attacks by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and allied militias on areas in the Nuba Mountains, South Kordofan, this morning. The SAF spokesman described the claim as \u201cfalse\u201d, reporting that the Sudanese regular forces repulsed a rebel attack in El Buram locality.<\/p>\n

The fighting in the areas of Lofo in Kadugli locality and El Ehemer in El Buram locality took place between 5.15 am and 8 am, SPLM-N spokesman Arnu Ngutulu Lodi reported in a press statement today (Monday). \u201cOur forces followed the enemy up to their trenches, and inflicted heavy casualties on them.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the rebel spokesman, the attacks came after the press conference by President Omar Al Bashir on Sunday, in which he rejected any temporary cessation of hostilities with the rebels. Lodi stressed that the SPLM-N is convinced that the \u201cNational Congress Party regime\u201d is not serious about any peaceful settlement. It \u201cis only buying time for military preparations\u201d. As \u201cwe know it\u2019s their start of dry season offensive, our forces remain in high alert and [are] committed to defend themselves and the civilians\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2018False statement\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Col. El Sawarmi Khalid Saad, Khartoum, the spokesman for the SAF announced today in a press release that army forces repulsed an attack staged by \u201cthe outlaws\u201d on the area of El Ehemer in South Kordofan.<\/p>\n

According to Saad, the rebel fighters fled, \u201cleaving behind their dead and wounded men\u201d. He added that one army soldier died, and 22 others were wounded in the battle.<\/p>\n

Saad described the SPLM-N claims that its fighters seized El Ehemer village as \u201cfalse\u201d. He affirmed that troops of \u201cthe SAF and other regular forces\u201d are in full control of the area, and are continuing their efforts to provide stability in the region.<\/p>\n
