Sheikh Abdallah Mohamed Abdelrahman, head of Religious Affairs of the Association of the Darfur Displaced and Refugees, has appealed to the International Union for Muslim Scholars and <\/em>Muslims all over the world to stand by \u201ctheir brothers in Sudan, and especially in Darfur\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Sheikh called via Radio Dabanga on \u201cour Muslim brothers and sisters\u201d not to remain silent about the killings, rapes, and assaults in Darfur. \u201cThey should tell the truth into the face of an unjust ruler. A Muslim does not oppress his brother nor betrays him.\u201d<\/p>\n

He strongly condemned the attack by militiamen on <\/em>a group of sheikhs and Koran scholars near Manawashi in South Darfur a week ago. 15 people were killed and many others wounded. He also pointed the reported mass rape by army troops in the village of Tabit in North Darfur on 31 October, as an example of \u201cthe ongoing, widespread attacks on citizens and displaced all over the region\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>On behalf of the Darfuri keepers of the Holy Koran, imams, and preachers, I urge the International Union for Muslim Scholars, and <\/em>imams and sheikhs all over the world, in particular in the Muslim and Arab world, to support their brothers in Sudan and especially in Darfur, We call on them to speak out, and denounce the continuing injustice, and the aggression practised against them.\u201d<\/p>\n

‘Tense’<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Commissioner of Mershing locality, Mohamed Nur Bosh, reported to Radio Dabanga that the situation in the area is still tense, \u201cthough Sudanese army troops have been sent to Hamada village, where the murdered sheikhs came from, to contain the situation\u201d.<\/p>\n
